Introduction
Primary 6 Mathematics develops pupils’ ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life. It builds skills in number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, geometry, algebra, data handling, and problem-solving. Pupils are encouraged to think logically, calculate accurately, and apply mathematics to real-life situations.
General Objectives
By the end of Primary 6, pupils should be able to:
- Perform the four basic operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Solve mathematical word problems involving everyday situations.
- Understand and apply fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages.
- Measure length, mass, capacity, time, area and volume correctly.
- Identify and describe common plane and solid shapes.
- Calculate perimeter, area and volume of simple shapes.
- Interpret tables, charts and simple graphs.
- Recognise simple number patterns and solve basic algebraic problems.
- Apply mathematical reasoning to practical situations.
- Develop accuracy, confidence and logical thinking in mathematics.
